Music

Our Curriculum

Our music curriculum aims to engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music.  Our intention is that children will gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres.   This is achieved through our adoption the Shropshire Music Service Curriculum which has been developed from the 'Model Music Curriculum'.   Pupils are given the opportunity to develop their skills as musicians through the teaching of instruments and, as singers in whole school performances.  In doing so we shall, increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

Curriculum Arrangements

On a weekly basis a specialist music teacher, Mr Butler from Shropshire Music Service comes into school to lead music lessons for the pupils in each class on a three week rolling programme. This ensures high quality and specialist teaching to children across the school. Support and professional development is provided to teachers to upskill them further and enhance their own teaching in subsequent lessons.

Music Clubs and Events

Mr Butler, our specialist music teacher also leads a weekly music club where he focuses on a teaching a new instrument to KS2 on a termly basis. During 2022-23, the music club had a full year of ukelele lessons, however during 2023-24, instruments will be rotated across the year on a termly basis, starting with the 'Penny Whistle'.

Alongside our weekly lessons and music club, a member of staff also runs a choir club during lunchtimes on a weekly basis. Songs practiced in the club are showcased at special events, such as Harvest and the Christmas play. Children also have the opportunity to share their singing with the local community at the Christingle event, at the local garden centre and at the school fete.

Children across the school enjoy performing to their parents on a termly basis in a special assembly or show. Please take a look at a few of our performances below.

On an annual basis we invite band into school from Shropshire Music Service for 'Live Band Week'. Our visit for the 2022-23 academic year was very much enjoyed, especially when they had a chance to join in!
