The pre-school has a key person system. This means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom she/he is particularly responsible. Your child's key person will be the person who works with you to make sure that what the pre-school provides is right for your child's particular needs and interests. When your child first starts at the pre-school, she/he will help your child to settle and throughout your child's time at the pre-school, she/he will help your child to benefit from the pre-school's activities.
Due to our rural location, Woore Pre-School: Saplings attracts children from a wide geographical area. Whilst many of our children progress, at four or five years of age, to Woore Primary School, others move on to primary schools nearer their home addresses. This is perfectly acceptable and in line with government guidelines regarding parental preference.
Parents wishing to find out more about what Woore Primary School has to offer are very welcome to discuss these issues with the Pre-School Chairperson and with the Head Teacher of Woore Primary School directly.
The pre-school and school enjoy a close working relationship and work hard to actively nurture the relationships between all children and staff at the site. Lunch clubs are one way of fostering this, as are specific activities arranged periodically throughout the year. For example; The Teddy Bear’s Picnic during June’s National Play Week, occasional whole school assemblies, and fundraising activities such as the Summer Fete.
We have found that the school children are wonderfully protective and caring of the younger children at these times, whilst our pre-schoolers love the opportunity to be with the ‘big children’ and integrate easily into the life of ‘Big School’ – an ideal preparation for when that move becomes a reality (wherever their eventual destination)!
